Taking advantage of the 'quiet time' when its customers' activities slowed down, PEC decided to look for new business up-market and abroad.

Advisors from Trade Partners UK were convinced that PEC offered services that are sought after by buyers abroad. Under the Passport to Export programme, the company was provided with encouragement in the form of a 50% grant towards the cost of designing and supplying new marketing literature and web pages.

Over the last 12 months, PEC invested 16% of sales turnover to buy new machine tools and software. The latest piece of new equipment, delivered at the end of November, is a DMG 70 evolution 5-axis simultaneous machine tool, which will enable very complex one-hit machining for specialised aerospace requirements. This is to be followed after Christmas by a DMG CTX 310 mill turn lathe.
