Measuring up to five meters in length, the new ITS Controlled Boring System (CBS) SX Series tools, are possibly the largest of their kind.

Originally designed for a specific application within the power generation industry, the SX Series range of tools has a machining capability from 400 to 1200mm in diameter.

The tool offers particular benefits in the machining of large diameters at extended lengths, such as power generation turbine casings, ships rudder female tapers and large engine blocks.

Bottle boring operations on aircraft landing gear can also be accommodated with this principle of tooling solution.

Designed to run off horizontal boring mills with a live spindle and milling sleeve, the tool has the capability of forward and backward boring, facing and profile boring. In line with the rest of the ITS controlled boring product range, the SX Series boasts diameter control during the machining process. Utilising the CNC controls of the machine tool, changing diameters can be machined automatically, without having to change or manually adjust the tool.
