New Machine Drills Deep and Keeps Costs Down

LMS Precision, Worcestershire, is used to having a full order book of aircraft work. Currently the company is reasonably busy but is driven to invest in new equipment to get costs down. The latest investment adds deep hole drilling capabilities to the wide range of complex turning and milling operations performed.

The latest Nakamura WT150 machine, from Mills manufacturing, was installed at the end of last month.

This bar fed, twin spindle, twin turret, 7-axis lathe enables LMS to make existing parts more quickly, and in larger volumes.

Managing partner, Roger Street said that the additional high-pressure (70 bar) coolant function gives the ability to include drill hole drilling operations in one-hit machining, which is a recent customer requirement that would have been more costly to perform otherwise.
