The CCL was introduced to encourage companies to use energy more efficiently with revenues mainly returned to companies through reduced National Insurance Contributions.
However, most of the benefit seems to have been accrued within the service sector which tends to have higher staffing levels and lower energy requirements, with the manufacturing sector being worse off to the tune of £286m in the first year after introduction.
Although some manufacturing sectors are benefiting from the CCL, the results are described by EEF as patchy and many manufacturing companies will need to take additional steps if they are to recover their competitiveness through adopting techniques and practices to reduce energy requirements (which both reduces energy costs and the costs of the CCL).
To find a contact to help reduce energy costs, contact the MAS in the South East on 0845-609-2121 where the team can put you in touch with a local provider wherever you are located.
