''We are talking about moving into a massive market here and the Midlands has all of the ingredients in place to be a world leader.

Although the death knell of hydrocarbon culture is still some way off, the Government's commitment to produce 10 per cent of our electricity through renewable sources by 2010 has now produced a home market that our manufactures must try to break into.'' Calculations carried out by the MEBC find that to meet the 10 per cent target, one new £1 million wind turbine will have to be produced every day until the 2010 deadline.

From 23 to 27 September, West Midland manufacturers will be grouped together for the first time at the Husum exhibition, Germany.

Under the WindSupply WM banner they will present a comprehensive range of products and services from the Midlands as well as featuring several existing suppliers to the wind turbine market.
