"When the customer compared our costs against the Chinese pricing and then added the cost of shipment, took into consideration the lead time for delivery and the advantage of local (in the UK) source of supply, Unicut was a more realistic solution."
The three parts are now being produced on the Miyano which was the first machine of its type to be installed in the UK. It will mill/turn the three components using 'one-hit', single cycle machining techniques utilising the main and sub-spindle and twin turrets of the machine.
Two of the parts produced from 36mm diameter brass are now machined largely unmanned over weekends. The third part, a housing, produced out of difficult to cut 40mm stainless steel and previously machined in three operations by the customer, is being produced in a single mill/turn cycle. However, due to the nature of the material and tolerances required, this will only be produced in normal manned working hours.
