The company has replaced two 4m honing machines with an 8m equivalent and has also made way for a new, larger boring machine.

Boasting a 1200mm diameter chuck, and able to accommodate tubular components from 2m to 10m in length with bores from 60mm to over 600mm diameter, this will be the largest of the company’s 4 tube boring machines. The machine has a 500mm diameter hollow spindle to handle extra long jobs.

Keetons’ other deep hole boring machines, predominantly bore from solid bar, and one of these is receiving some special attention too. The machine can currently bore jobs up to 6.5m long, and is having its bed extended by another 4m to increase the number of machines with 10m capacity.

Despite increasing their capacity towards the larger end of the spectrum, and although the company rarely bores items less than 1000mm long, Keetons still retain their ability to machine smaller items. Their smallest borer can handle bores of 20mm to 70mm diameter in lengths of up to 4 metres. Fully aware that market forces will continue to change, they also have a couple of extra machines tucked away for future development.
