Work on the high temperature alloy tubes is expected to take ten weeks, and six additional staff have been employed to meet the extra workload. Typically, Apperley can process around 400m of cylinder tube during an average week. Apperley Honing has eight horizontal machines varying in size from the smallest 2m stroke 'Jason' machine, up to the largest Delapena HHM 30/20 machine, which can hone tubes up to 9600mm long and in diameters of up to 250mm.

For extra long tubes, Apperley can hone from both ends, producing an invisible blend from end to end. Bore tolerance as tight as H8 can be maintained when honing 'turn arounds'. For larger diameter tubes Apperley offers a honing and polishing service that goes up to 750mm, although this is limited to lengths of 9000mm long. Most of Apperley’s tube honing is carried out on 'random' length tubes (6m to 8m long) within the bore range of 50-200mm diameter, and although steel is the most commonly specified material, the company is often called upon to machine aluminium, stainless steel, titanium, nimonics and hard chrome.
