This growth, coupled with growing environmental legislation and landfill costs, was responsible for the relocation, which has seen the company more than double their capacity and office space by relocating into a 12,000 sq ft site in Darkhouse Lane.

“You could say we’ve had a whirlwind twelve months,” explained Paul Green, who has nearly 25 years’ experience in manufacturing.

“Waste management is a very complex issue, but one that businesses in the UK need to address as it is costing industry millions of pounds in landfill tax and lost revenue.”

He continued: “Armed with these facts, the first priority for the year was to start educating companies to this fact and to build long term relationships with local authorities and sector bodies that are promoting this issue. This was successfully done in the first two months and our customer base has grown on a daily basis ever since.”

Recycled UK has invested £100,000 in the relocation and the introduction of a state-of-the-art granulating system, which has increased efficiency by 75%. The new site, which is within easy reach of the West Midlands motorway network, also provides a large storage yard that is ideal for storing plastics from the company’s daily collection service.

“There are currently six of us working here at the moment and, if things continue to go well, we would expect this number to increase to ten by the end of 2007,” added Paul Cotton.

“We are dealing with all sorts of industries, including automotive, aerospace, food processing and regeneration projects, where we are beginning to see growing demand for recycling UPVC doors and windows.”

Backed by support from the National Industrial Symbosis programme, Recycled UK Ltd provide a complete service from full site surveys and production audits through to collection and safe removal of all plastic waste.

Long-term, the company intend to use the recycled material to produce a host of products that can be used in the domestic and car parts marketplace.

“All plastics are recyclable and we can handle scrap mouldings, scrap packaging, post industrial rejects, components, video cassettes, bottles, shrink wrap and even crisp wrappers,” added Paul Green.

“A lot of the time it is just about educating our customers on how to separate waste and then the implementation of a standard system. On some occasions, we can even introduce new revenue streams, which, when combined with efficient storage and disposals methods, added another £52,000 onto the bottom line of one of our clients.”

He concluded: “With the factory move now complete and orders growing with every passing day, I would expect us to comfortably reach the £500k mark by 2008, with the majority of that revenue being poured back into securing the best machinery and training all members of staff on the latest techniques and legislation.

“With only 7% of all the UK’s plastic waste currently recycled, the opportunities are endless.”
