Surface Treatments & Finishing

The key is in the finish

Drawing on its experience in the giftware industry – and in particular manufacturing split ring key rings – Berkeley and Co has developed a subcontract service that can give customers the same high levels of surface finish it uses on its own products.

Raw materials or finished products can be cleaned, deburred and polished using bulk processes that reduce handling operations and cut out the cost of manual processing. The company also has its own in-house barrel nickel plating line, and this service is also offered on a subcontract basis.

According to Tony Hotchkiss of Berkeley & Co, “We have the experience of using the surface finish to make our products stand out from the crowd, and the techniques we have been using on items such as key rings, buckles and other pressed parts are now available to the wider market.”

One recent job involves brightening brass components, leaving them clean and dry without affecting their usage characteristics.

Berkeley & Co can also offer customers the chance to incorporate printing into the components it produces from customers’ drawings.

“From our work in giftware we have developed techniques for printing a logo, name or advertising message onto many different sorts of components. This process can be used for virtually any purpose-made pressing and adds very little to the original tooling price,” says Tony.
