Bigger parts and short lead times from LMS

LMS Precision Engineering has purchased a gantry loading twin-turret, twin spindle machine that allows it to produce finished components from billet with no manual intervention. The Takisawa TT200 complements the existing bar-fed twin-spindle capacity at LMS by extending the size range for automated one-hit machining from 65mm diameter up to 160mm diameter.

With a maximum chucking and turning diameter of 160mmm, turning length of 100mm and individual component weight of 4kg, the new machine offers much faster lead times for the volume production of components from steel or stainless steel billets and non-ferrous castings and forgings.

The Takisawa machine provides simultaneous turning of identical, or first and second, operations on twin spindles. The automatic, magazine-fed, overhead high speed gantry loader incorporates a turn-over device for the loading of first and second operations onto the left hand or right hand spindle, so that finished parts are produced in one setup.

Based in Droitwich, LMS Precision manufactures precision-machined components for companies in industries such as aerospace and process engineering. In addition to its new Takisawa gantry machine its CNC equipment includes  sliding head lathes, two-axis lathes, multi-axis twin-spindle, twin turret bar fed lathes and horizontal and vertical machining centres.
