The four apprentices employed by the precision sheet metal manufacturer include 19 years old Tom Gwynn and 18 years old Jamie Sproson, both in their third year, 19 years old Greg Whitehall a first year apprentice and 20 years old Richard Massey, a fourth year apprentice. Richard has designed and manufactured an off-road go kart using both traditional (toolroom) and innovative (laser cutting) skills which he has acquired at Radshape. Radshape’s Production Manager, Mark Lewis is Richard’s mentor and set up the apprentice training programme with staff at Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun College.
The company which has a £3.7 million annual turnover and employs sixty people was started by three people who invested their redundancy money in 1967.
Based in Aston, Birmingham, the manufacturer includes Rolls Royce, Bentley, Morgan, British Aerospace, Atlas, Whale Tankers and Prodrive amongst its customers and employs traditional sheet metalworkers to handcraft small intricate work whilst offering bespoke high technology solutions for companies seeking manufacturing advice.
Radshape made the chassis for the Morgan Aero 8, the innovative land and water driven Gibbs Aquada and the chassis and fuel tank for the new Marcos TSO.
The company also works in the aerospace, rail, marine, land based military, food and pharmaceutical industries.
