Merc specialises in high quality components and sub-assemblies for industries such as defence, aerospace, rail and motorsport, offering facilities that include CNC turning, milling and EDM as well as MIG and TIG welding to DIN 6700.

Bright Spark is based approximately one mile from Merc and is an expert in five-axis horizontal machining for aerospace and motorsport customers and has AS9100 accreditation. Merc says Bright Spark’s machine line-up is a perfect complement to its own investments at its Barrowford facility. Paul Hanson, the previous owner of Bright Spark will continue to work with the group as Bright Spark’s Operations Manager.

The addition of more production space will allow Merc to expand into new business sectors and make further investment in mill/turning facilities, where the equipment required plenty of floorspace and high ceilings.

Both companies will complement the other to offer existing clients the best possible service and will work together to make the best use of each other’s capacity. Both companies will continue to focus on high quality, precision components. Mec’s niche is in small to medium batch work, including prototyping and development, while Bright Spark focuses on larger batches.
