Peter Clark of PPH Moulders says that the Harlow-based moulding company spent some six months developing the product with Moule last year; making prototypes and testing the product feasibility before moving to a full production steel tool. “We are pleased and proud at PPH to have helped create the Chocbox innovation,” he says, “and to have succeeded in keeping the manufacturing business in the UK. More and more we at PPH see Total Cost criteria and Just-In-Time supply playing a larger part in helping clients keep their production business in the UK, and this also benefits the environment by reducing the carbon footprint of products.”
Clark adds that PPH bases much of its success on efficient and cost-saving product design and manufacture: 'We have an extremely lean and flexible 24/7 manufacturing operation - qualified to ISO 9001 - and we employ a very cross-functional team of expert people. At every stage of work we make sure that we are adding value for our customer. Our goal is sustainable and profitable business development and our best clients are those who rely on us to give them service that is beyond the norm.
Aside from its proprietary products such as Interbin and innovations such as the Chocbox, PPH specialises in improving products and processes for its customers, while at the same time, aiming to reduce the overall production cost - “optimising products,” says Clark, “upping the quality and the production process.” PPH has some 2,500 production tools in operation of which some 1500 are in production use at any given time. 'Several of our most recent successes,' says Clark 'have involved re-engineering existing products and have seen us making assembly processes more efficient - meaning a reduced cost of production to the customer.
A key factor in helping PPH deliver its customer satisfaction and service is the company's fleet of 22 Sandretto injection moulding machines, ranging from 62 to 1000 tonne locking force, the latest of which is a Sandretto HP 480 tonne locking force machine. Clark says that the wide range of injection moulding machinery at PPH allows it to handle an extremely diverse product portfolio.
