Fuel and metal prices make UK firm more competitive
19 Mar 2008
Catfield-based Acro Precision Engineering says global increases increases in metal and fuel prices have helped to contribute to a record year. The rises have had a major impact on the cost of making parts in the Far East and China and shipping them to the UK. This has brought prices more in line with UK manufacturers.
"The recent metal prices have really shook things up," said Managing Director Fred Pain. "We are now sent drawings that are quite old, where clearly the manufacturer has had a single supplier for sometime but now feels the need to shop around. This has been good news for us and it's been good to think we are winning work back from abroad."
Acro plans to introduce new machinery and expand its workforce during 2008, and is currently in discussion regarding several new high volume projects.
"We really do feel that manufacturers are starting to value once again the quality of British engineering and the importance of having a close and supportive relationship with their suppliers," said Fred Pain. "I’m looking forward to another exciting year."
