Conventional Tooling is Too Hot for Composites
01 Mar 2002
"Nobody in the aerospace or automotive sectors can afford to ignore this tooling. It provides a really massive step forward" says David Haslehurst, Unimerco's sales director. The company will be exhibiting a new range of Diaedge veined end mills and drills at MACH, stand 4312.
The new tooling is designed for machining carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) components and metal matrix composite materials used mainly in the automotive and aerospace industries. Immensely strong, CFRP is also highly abrasive and adversely affected by high heat build-up.
Unimerco's Diaedge PCD end mills and drills have overcome these problems to enable precision machining to be performed. The new end mills are equally suitable for cast aluminium, green ceramics and carbides, and nonferrous composite material.
