With presses up to 500 tonne capacity and a bed area of 2m x 1m, Bird Stevens (stand 184) can reduce labour content and improve throughput of pressed The productivity this brings is reflected in significant cost savings for customers. With the move to cellular manufacturing, this combination has greatly reduced stock holding and improved lead times.
It was this approach, coupled with good access to highly skilled toolmaking, that resulted in the company winning a large contract to supply pressings to the commercial vehicle market.
Against worldwide competition, a combination of track record and innovative thinking in finalising a design acceptable to the American parent company, won the day for Bird Stevens.
The company also undertakes sheet metal work assembly, with robotic welding, tube bending and finishing with in-house galvanising.
