F1 Supplier Gears Up Programming Capacity

The past few months at Amdale Ltd, Portsmouth have been spent gearing up for the demands of additional orders during the Formula One build season. Increasing programming capacity with Delcam's PowerShape and PowerMill CADCAM system was a top priority.

The family run precision engineering company specialises in CNC wire cutting, CNC milling, spark erosion and EDM small hole drilling (0.4 - 3mm diameter).

A recent acquisition is a Bridgeport VMC 1000 machining centre, dedicated to the urgent short lead time orders which are commonplace within Formula One work. This new machine is the fifth Bridgeport machining centre on Amdale's plant list. Other CNC machining facilities include a Mori Seki CNC lathe, Semco turret mill, Colchester Student and Churchill grinder.

Amdale's wire erosion facility comprises six Fanuc machines and a Charmilles Robofil 500, and it has a Charmilles Form 2LC for spark erosion.

Now in its 15th year (8/8/88 was the first day of business) Amdale has not only built up such plant diversity, but its tight knit team of staff are clearly the company's source of competitive advantage. Regularly operating 24 hours a day, 6 days a week, key personnel are trained to interchange between departments, giving greater flexibility during periods of high workload.
