The company is involved with prototype work and is a respected contributor of new ideas that would benefit the transport industry - especially with regard to reducing impact on the environment. Approved to single tender status by the MOD, WREL has undertaken large projects for ports, docks, quarries, construction companies and power plants.

Wickham's heavy engineering machine shop facilities include in-house plasma cutting, rolling, bending and welding, together with turning, milling, grinding, boring and pressing. Capacities include turning up to 1.8m diameter;

boring up to 1.3m diameter by 2.2m deep; and milling up to 1m long by 1m high. WREL's sister company, Wickham Marine, has a 'tidal yard'which offers repair facilities, slipping and cranage, with direct water and road access.
