Metalworking Fluids Exposure Tackled
01 Sep 2002
Dermatitis, and respiratory effects, including bronchitis and asthma are the main health concerns associated with exposure to metal working fluids, such as coolants and cutting oils. To reduce these health risks, the HSE and the Engineering Employers' Federation will launch new guidance on good practice standards at the first of a series of seminars being organised in October and November at venues around the UK.
The package includes task sheets for operators and a guidance level for airborne neat oil and water-mix metal working fluids mist levels and sump fluid contaminants, such as bacteria. It also contains a poster, and monitoring charts.
Each of the seminars will have presentations covering the importance of fluid management and current good working practices. There will also be updates on new fluid and machining developments. At each seminar, a local business will present their story of how they are effectively managing these fluids and the associated benefits.
