Electroless Diffused Nickel Resists Corrosion
01 Sep 2002
Over the last two years Nitec UK Ltd, a specialist in electroless nickel plating, has invested £750,000 and added a sixth plating line at its plant in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Capabilities also include copper and tin plating of components ranging from a few ounces to 20 tonnes in weight. Nitec serves a wide customer base including: telecommunications, electronic MoD, automotive, oil and gas, precision turning and general engineering.
'Nikaflex' (diffused electroless nickel) is a finish used by some of the large oil companies because it has excellent corrosion resistance (withstanding 2000 hours of salt spray tests). The components are plated with a heavy deposit of nickel (75-100 microns) and by heating to over 600ºC the nickel is diffused into the components by 3-5 microns.
