Thin Wet Films Replace Grease in Many Areas
01 Sep 2002
In the Automotive and Transport feature in last month's Engineering Capacity, the new Carbaflo coating technology was incorrectly described in the headline as a 'dry' film coating, which it is not.
Carbaflo is not a dry film coating but a thin wet film of easily applied non-drying, non-curing fluid, which is replacing messy greases in many areas.
While dry films can be used to eliminate some greasing operations, they are not as good as Carbaflo films in areas that are susceptible to abrasion.
Dry films can become damaged, leading to increased wear and noise.
Based on advanced fluoropolymer technology Carbaflo thin films are a virtually invisible, self repairing fluid coating that cannot be easily removed from a surface once applied. Resistant to aggressive chemicals, solvents and fuels, they are also universally compatible with plastics, elastomers and natural rubber. Their low volatility gives them exceptional durability, even when used in ultra thin films and their low co-efficients of friction make them highly effective at promoting smooth movement and eliminating unwanted noise such as squeaks and creaks.
