£0.7M Laser Investment Passes the Test with First High Volume Order
01 Dec 2003
Following the relocation to more efficient and larger new premises in September, JLF Engineering, the Croydon based precision sheet metal firm, installed two new Bystronic Byspeed lasers in an investment totalling £0.7m. As soon as the 4kW lasers were commissioned, they were put to the test with an order for 3k shelves and brackets that was completed on time, within one week.
JLF's customer in the retail sector knew that the new equipment would increase output volume and reduce lead times. The high speed machines are capable of working larger sheet sizes, (3m x1.5m), which will reduce handling time and improve cost effectiveness as more parts can be cut per sheet.
The new machines are two of only six of their kind currently in the UK.
JLF has a history of heavy investment in Bystronic laser profiling technology.
JLF's laser work stations are computer linked to a CADCAM system, which works with information taken from drawings, sketches or client supplied drawings, exchange files (DXF) via disk or email.
This production system is supported by a Pullmax Laser QC 800 digital scanner that can scan artwork, as well as flat sheet metal product.
The scanner speeds up the inspection stage and can also be used for reverse engineering. Typically, the equipment scans a 500mm square part in 45 seconds, verifies the results against a drawing and reports any discrepancies.
In addition to serving the retail sector with high volume shop fittings, JLF supplies blue chip clients within the rail and medical sectors, and also manufactures bespoke vending and casino style machines for the gaming industry.
