Collaborative Suppliers Share Mutual Benefits
01 Dec 2003
Supply chain distance and complexity is increasing as low value added operations are moved around the world.
Coupled with demand to deliver customised, niche products more quickly effective management of supply chains is key to the future of engineering companies, says Mark Eaton, Head of the MAS (South East & London).
Recent work undertaken by Dr Gunther Kruse, Director of Scope Management and Operations Director of Supply Chain Analytics, demonstrates that companies who follow a logical process in the design of their supply chain and collaborative processes can achieve significant and sustainable results.
One way to gain control is through the development of a collaborative supply chain, which develops mutually beneficial processes that improve communication, shorten lead-times and reduce costs.
Examples range from neighbouring companies sharing a delivery service, through to whole supply chains sharing electronic data on orders, progress and pricing.
The issue of confidentiality, trust, and data integrity are top priority issues which can only be overcome through management commitment and the allocation of suitable resources.
