Precise Machining Needs Improved Inspection

Birmingham based Rowan Precision, is passionate about precision. Over seven years ago, after the company saw the potential of the enormous advances made in high speed one-hit machining typified by the Swiss type sliding headstock machines, it replaced a shop full of Swiss cam machines, and embarked on a program of updating to the Tornos Deco machine range. These investments have in turn required improved inspection facilities.

The passion for precision continued with the introduction of the Swiss made Bumotec mill-turn centre as used by Rolex to machine their watch cases.

Originally purchased to manufacture prismatic components for the microwave industry, it was quickly put to use to produce complex military electrical connectors enabling the company to explore new hi-tech markets. The investment of £250,000 in this one machine was quickly followed with the addition of Citizen's M32 multi axis machine to complement this growth area of medium volume complex components.

Problems in inspecting these demanding products have been eased with the purchase of a Hawk 3 axis video non-contact measuring machine, which not only reduces inspection time, but compiles accurate reports for ISIR documentation.
