Refurbishment Project Will Span Eight Years
01 Feb 2003
Redfern Stevens, Birmingham, has been awarded a contract to manufacture components for use during the refurbishment of approximately 700 London Underground sites including stations and depots, as well as on some parts of the drivers' carriages.
Redfern Stevens will supply Ingersoll Rand Architectural Hardware Limited, which is a leading manufacturer of door furniture and controls.
The project will span eight years and will involve the production of machined door lever spindles for all doors at the refurbished stations. Constructed from high grade 316 stainless steel, the levers are suitable for the demanding duty cycle and corrosive environment encountered in many parts of the Underground network.
The project is a breakthrough for the company, being its first involvement with the Underground. Redfern Stevens has been supplying components to the mainline UK rail network for over 25 years.
