Specialist Heat Treater of High-Speed Steel Celebrates 20th Year

Summitglow heat treatment specialists are celebrating their twentieth anniversary. The company was originally established in 1983 purely to treat high-speed steel by the salt bath method. A six bar pressure quench vacuum furnace is the latest addition to the Sheffield company's capacity.

Today the company provides a wide range of heat treatment services, including salt baths, a pressure quench vacuum furnace, two sealed quench furnaces, a continuous mesh belt furnace, and four nitriding and nitrocarburising furnaces for items of up to 4m in length.

The Thermatec Phoenix 6 bar pressure quench vacuum furnace is a recent acquisition and is now fully online. This custom designed unit allows Summitglow to rapidly treat small batch quantities of tool steel, highspeed steel and many other speciality applications, such as medical components. The furnace is loaded vertically so that, where the straightness of the components is of paramount importance, they can be treated more easily.

The vacuum furnace is a PC based system, which allows the process to be tracked accurately. It can produce graphs and charts of the entire treatment, or selected highlights of it while the work is in progress.
