Steel Users Subscribe to Search Standards on Web

A new web-based steel standards service has been launched by the EEF's UK Steel Division. The new electronic subscription service will enable steel users and specifiers to get hold of the most up-to-date chemical compositions and mechanical properties for UK, EU and US steel standards.

Each year the steel industry introduces 'new' steel standards - over the last two years there have been nearly 40 'new' additions. Some are summaries of new steels, and others are revisions of previously accepted norms.

The SteelSpec database will hold the 200 most important steel standards, which will be updated four times a year.

The dynamic search facility will find details of a particular steel according to a given chemical analysis or a required mechanical performance. For example, a civil engineer could search according to strength and hardness data, and SteelSpec will name the standards that provide the required performance.
