Achievement in Process Innovation is Outstanding

Micrometric Techniques, the Lincoln based laser cutting, welding, marking and wire EDM specialist, has won an Institute of Mechanical Engineers MX 2003 Outstanding Achievement in Process Innovation award. The judges were particularly impressed by Micrometric's use and application of its recently installed £450,000 state-of-the-art laser machining system.

Micrometric's five-axis MJ Technology CNC machining centre with a 3kW CO2 Trumpf laser at its heart, and a robot to carry out repetitive handling of components, is the only one of its kind in the UK. Designed and commissioned to Micrometric's own specification, the machining centre is the centre-piece of recent high-tech machine investments that enable the company to provide a high accuracy, cost-effective service for precision, added-value finishing to flat and three-dimensional products in a variety of materials from pre-machined, pressed and fabricated components. It produces slots, holes and apertures to any shape.

At a glittering awards ceremony in London, attended by many of Britain's leading manufacturing companies, John Ling, IMechE technical manager, announced: "Micrometric is a very impressive SME that applies laser technology to produce high quality products at very competitive rates.

They apply customer focus to the extreme - tell them what you want and they will find a way to make it! They have even applied an innovative concept to a very expensive piece of machinery to give it remarkable flexibility."
