High Quality Form and Finish Come as Cast
01 Jun 2003
An ISO9001 accredited company, Micro Metalsmiths, North Yorkshire has been developing the 'MM' casting process in-house for over 35 years. Add to this specialised machining skills, and many constraints placed on designers can be overcome. These benefits have already been realised by many blue chip companies around the world.
Selected for excellent visual qualities in form and finish the MM precision casting process can be found in a vast range of applications, from technically demanding safety equipment through to executive toilet door fixtures. The flexibility in form and superior finish offers the designer a low cost route to achieving components that not only look good but feel good.
Using the MM process high quality surfaces come as cast, typically giving better than 0.8 micrometers surface finish. If desired this surface can then be easily plated, anodised, brush finished or otherwise treated to meet requirements. Flexibility of form is also an inherent feature of the MM process.
This gives designers a free hand in terms of achieving their ergonomic requirements, along with the ability to introduce tactile areas and aesthetically sympathetic features, such as labelling, at no extra component cost.
Components produced by the MM process can be taken direct from rapid prototyping methods, or a tool produced directly from a CAD file. Alternatively Micro Metalsmiths' in-house design team can advise and develop a suitable design from sketches and discussion.
The resulting low cost, long-life tooling allows components to be produced economically in their tens or thousands.
