Cnc Machining

It's All In The Name

Precision manufacturers Cutting Edge Components Ltd have just taken delivery of two new Citizen sliding head lathes. In keeping with the Cutting Edge name, both machines are fitted with the latest remote diagnostic tools, 13 machining axes and ultra highpressure coolant delivery.

Although they have made a substantial initial investment, directors Simon Leonard and Noel Harvey are confident that the machines will not only offer better quality components through the elimination of second operations, they will also allow components to be produced with quicker turnarounds at competitive (but profitable! ) prices.

Another significant investment has been an advanced optical co-ordinate measurement system from Vision Engineering. Says Dr Leonard:

"during my time with previous companies, the measurement of roundness, concentricity and geometrical relationships has been difficult due to the absence of specialised inspection equipment. Not only does our system allow accurate measurement of such features, we can provide quantitative results in the form of actual data printouts. With equipment such as a shadowgraph, it is common practice to measure features such as radii by subjective comparison with an overlay. Our system actually allows you to quantify the radius".

Cutting Edge Components are currently offering precision CNC turning up to 65mm diameter from bar and up to 200mm from billet.
