Modern Manufacturing Methods Suit Short Runs
01 May 2003
Guttridge Laserfab is the CNC sheetmetal division of South Lincs based Guttridge Services.
Established in 1962, the company celebrated its 40th year of business with the purchase of over £500,000 worth of CNC machinery. This expenditure takes the total invested in new machinery and computer systems to over £1m since the company moved into its new factory two and half years ago.
Guttridge Laserfab offers a total sheetmetal service including powder coating as well as general fabrication.
The company is nine months into a lean manufacturing initiative, which has already created efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
Unusually for CNC specialists, the company is happy to do short runs and small batch quantities.
The new machinery included a Trumpf 5kW 3mx1.5m laser cutting machine to provide significant speed improvements on most thicknesses of materials. A 250 ton x 4m Edwards Pearson Beyeler press brake completed the investment and has significantly reduced setup times, improving accuracy and increasing bend capacity.
