Gear Company Diversifies into Quality Castings
01 Oct 2003
Mini Gears have won a contract from a new customer to supply 200,000 castings per annum for safety critical parts used by people working at heights such as on pylons, buildings and bridges. This project has enabled Mini Gears to open up a new area of business and provide its customers with quality parts with a significant cost saving.
Mini Gears supplies globally to a wide range of industries that require power transmission components. In addition to supplying gears and racks, Mini Gears has now added high volume castings, forgings and machined parts to its product range.
'Nearly all gears go into a housing, which is a casting or have a leg or a dog, which is a forging. Many of our customers have expressed an interest in our sourcing these parts for them', says Richard Jones, business development manager.
The new contract will be sourced from a specialist investment casting supplier in China who can meet all the specialised material and testing requirements. All items are fully X-rayed and dye penned to ensure that there are no cracks in the component; and fully certificated product paperwork is provided in English. This new service has already proved successful with Mini Gears' existing customers.
