Capability Developed for Complex, Small Batches

Medical and cryogenic subcontract machining accounts for 70% of Acrona Engineering's turnover, with nuclear and F1 motor sport companies also featuring prominently among its customers.
The company decided to develop its capacity for smaller runs of more complex parts, and purchased three machining centres with powerful computer aided systems to minimise programming time.
Joint founder and sales manager Albert Soave took the view that batches of complex parts, from 50 down to one off, are of higher value, and that if components are being produced more frequently, rapid changeover to the next job is crucial to maintain productivity.
The three Hurco vertical machining centres were installed during 2000 after a move to a new, purpose-built premises near Witney, Oxfordshire.
