Press Shop Diversifies into Sheet Metal Work
01 Apr 2004
The Wolverhampton based Smithson Plant, part of the Tinsley Group, has been changing its business direction over the past two years from a traditional light press shop with an automotive focus, moving into new markets servicing all types of non-automotive batch production sheet metal work. Its success has resulted in significant capital investment, and it recently installed its third Trumpf laser to keep pace with growing demand.
These machines feed the new robotic welding cells, which are dedicated to specific customer needs and requirements within the presswork and fabrication industries. All this new investment has provided customers with a fast, reliable and quality 'one stop shop' service whether it be for cutting, profiling or fully finished fabricated, painted assemblies.
In addition, Smithson is currently installing a 1200 ton large bed press to complement its existing heavy press capacity, which remains a core of its business.
The range of pressings, sheet metalwork and fabricated assemblies produced by the Smithson Plant compliment the heavier products available from the other Tinsley Group plants. Production at the Smithson plant extends through a variety of steel types, with thickness ranging from 1.6mm to 15mm.
