Event Demonstrates the Growing Benefits of Shrinking Sizes
01 Apr 2004
The Manufacturing Technologies Association's (MTA's) series of Sharing Tomorrow's Technology Today international conferences continues on 30 June. Presentations will be on micro and nano technology, which are increasingly being used in the manufacture of a huge variety of consumer products and industrial components. Unless awareness of these technologies increases in the UK, significant business opportunities will be lost to overseas competitors.
The target audience for the seminars is expected to include engineers from all the major disciplines, including mechanical, manufacturing, materials and electronic. One particular sector that will benefit is mould and die manufacture, through the requirement for high volumes of microcomponents made from plastics, light alloys and other materials.
The seminar will focus on the diversity and potential for micro and nano manufacturing technologies and examine the role of processes able to produce micro/meso-scale features and components. This will include high-speed milling and electrical discharge machining, CAD/CAM, forming and metrology issues.
The event is being held in partnership with The University of Birmingham's School of Engineering with support from the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI).
