Vital Medical Components Provided for Surgery
01 Apr 2004
Claro Precision Engineering, North Yorkshire winner of the 2003 GTMA World Class Award for manufacturing, recently provided a thumb trunion - a small but vital component used in the new MK4 electric hand produced by specialist Leeds manufacturer RSL Steeper.
Brent Pickles, operations manager at RSL Steeper's manufacturing facility in Leeds said Claro had been involved in the work from the prototype stage through to the finished product. He said: "These are high-precision, high quality instruments, with parts made to high tolerance levels, as they have to be a reliable replacement for adult and children's hands. This level of quality is what we get with Claro."
Claro has also been involved in essential work for a number of other specialist UK companies manufacturing components used in knee, hip and shoulder surgery. Other medical work includes producing components for critical heart valve surgery as well as for surgical instruments. Claro also manufactures and refurbishes arthroscopic tools and a wide range of implants and instruments for use in surgery.
In addition to medical work, Claro produces a wide range of precision items, kits and assemblies including:
aerospace components, laser parts and assemblies as well as components for the defence, security, fire protection, sub sea and microwave communications and other industries.
The company's latest piece of equipment, a Matsuura RA-2G twin pallet, and its 4-axis Bridgeport were used to provide the key component for the new hand.
