Improved Production Systems Recognised
01 Apr 2004
This month, Facts Precision Ltd, a Glenthroes based manufacturer of precision machine components for the automotive industry received official certification to ISO TS16949:2002, the global standard for a quality management system for automotive production. Facts Precision is the first Scottish company in its field to gain this accreditation, which it has worked towards for the past 12 months with funding and assistance from Scottish Enterprise Fife and Business Gateway.
The business rationalised many of its production systems in preparation for being assessed, including transition to ISO 9001:2000. These new systems ensure that components are put through their paces before the company begins manufacturing them, which speeds up their production lines.
Facts Precision sales manager Martin Davidson said: "We decided to adopt a serious, proactive approach to our productivity, which we are confident will appeal to our customers by minimising wastage, supporting their supply chain and being able to compete in global markets.
Facts Precision first opened in 1967 as Fife Auto Cam and Tool Services, and now supplies a variety of precision machined components to a diverse mixture of industries, which includes: hospital theatre equipment, aerospace and defence systems, mechanical hydraulics systems for plant vehicles and fuel injection systems, and products for the automotive sector. Many of its main customers are US based. This new standard of working will enable the firm to compete more aggressively with overseas competitors.
