6kW Flat Bed Laser is First of its Kind in the UK
01 Dec 2004
In a fast growing industry sector, Mayflower Technology Ltd is at the fore front of laser cutting technology in the UK. Due to continued growth, the company has invested in a new 6kW flat bed Trumpf laser system. This machine, which is the first of its kind in the UK, has a 4000mm x 2000mm bed size and is capable of laser cutting 25mm thick stainless steel and 25mm thick mild steel.
With a £14m turnover, Mayflower Technology specialises in supplying laser cut, formed, machined and fabricated components to a wide range of customers in all major industry sectors.
The Sheffield based firm operates from 68,000 square feet of manufacturing space in a seven acre site set in the industrial heart of the city.
This latest investment complements Mayflower's existing high-speed and large bed laser systems that have enabled the company to compete against punching. On thin gauge materials, complex shapes and pieces with multiple holes or slots can be manufactured faster than any comparable process.
In addition to the ability to cut components up to 8000mm x 2500mm in size, a unique feature of the 6kW machine is the capability to laser cut 15mm aluminium. It can also process thin sheet at high speeds - up to 40m per minute.
With such large laser cutting capacity, Mayflower Technology provides added value to its services by also working a 640 tonne press brake capable of pressing components up to 7200mm long. The company also offers a comprehensive range of machining services in addition to its robotic and normal fabrication facilities.
Mayflower supplies one-off items in stainless steel, titanium, aluminium or carbon steels, and also works directly with its OEM customers to provide a range of total engineering solutions aimed at reducing down time and improving levels of production and unit costs.
As an authorised distributor for Swedish Steel SSAB Oxelosund, Mayflower Technology processes in excess of 2000 tonnes of Hardox wear plate and Weldox Extra high strength plate per year.
