Continued Productivity Improvements Hit Jackpot
01 Dec 2004
Two Bystronic lasers purchased last year by JLF Engineering, the Croydon based precision sheet metal firm, have enabled the company to continue to increase productivity, meet lead times and secure major contracts. The company has just won a substantial order for the gaming industry to be delivered over the fist two months of the New Year.
In September 2003 the company relocated to more efficient and larger new premises and installed a new 4kW laser in an investment totalling £0.7m. The high speed machines are capable of working larger sheet sizes, (3m x1.5m), which reduce handling time and improve cost effectiveness as more parts can be cut per sheet.
This production system is supported by a Pullmax Laser QC 800 digital scanner that can scan artwork, as well as flat sheet metal product. The scanner speeds up the inspection stage and can also be used for reverse engineering.
Typically, the equipment scans a 500mm square part in 45 seconds, verifies the results against a drawing and reports any discrepancies.
In addition to serving the retail sector with high volume shop fittings, JLF supplies blue chip clients within the rail and medical sectors, and also manufactures bespoke vending and casino style machines for the gaming industry.
