Laser Services to Double in Size, with £1.2m Budget
01 Dec 2004
As an exceptionally successful year draws to a close at Carlton Laser Services of Leicester, the company is looking forward to 21 January 2005 when an adjoining unit will be officially opened by Patricia Hewitt Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. The additional unit, which doubles the company's floor space to 36,000 ft2, will soon be operating with £1.2m of new automated laser cutting and fabrication cells.
The fine limit sheetmetal work and laser cutting specialist has arranged a budget of £1.2m to purchase high technology, fast set up machines that will take it into the premier league of contract fabrication companies. The new facilities will build on the company's existing investment in automated cells, in line with the company ethos to 'work smarter not harder'. Specifications for the new equipment will be finalised in response to feedback from key accounts and other stakeholders, who will also be invited to the Grand Opening.
Turnover grew in 2004 by an exceptional 64% to £4.1m.
Consequently, all costs associated with this expansion (except for £1.2m of equipment) have been funded from cashflow, including £55k spent on IT systems and software upgrades.
Carlton Laser demonstrated that it had advanced planning expertise and systems in place in 2003, when it installed a unique automated cell that linked a punch press and a laser cutter to a single material storage system loaded for lights out running over 48 hours; and was probably the only subcontractor in the UK working in this way.
Early in 2002 the company became one of only a few laser job shops in the UK to install a LaserQC (1200x1200) machine and offer its inspection services to other laser cutting contractors.
In 2005 Carlton Laser Services plans to target the market for plastic parts by offering equivalent metal fabrications at a fraction of the cost.
