Customer Specific Cell Adds Value to Services in Machined Parts Project
01 Dec 2004
Premier Deep Hole Drilling of St Albans, specialist in high-quality sub-contract honed, drilled and bored parts, has invested over £250,000 during the past 12 months on high-tech multi-axis turning centres and inspection equipment to create a customer-specific manufacturing cell to satisfy a value-added machining project on a range of parts.
For this project, all parts incorporate highly accurate deep hole drilling and honing features (the honed finish on one part, for example, is to within one micron) but they also feature rough and finish turning, grooving and cross drilling, for instance. By performing these additional machined features and surface finish operations, Premier has immediately reduced its customer's buying costs by at least 10%.
Underpinned by a continual investment programme in sophisticated machining centres (up to 6-axis) and turning (up to 4-axis) technologies, plus surface and cylindrical grinding, Premier's total solutions approach to machining is in direct response to customer demand for a responsive and cost-effective total machining package.
With 26 gun drilling machines for holes from 2.5mm diameter by 3,000mm deep, three ejector drilling machines for holes up to 75mm diameter by 1,500mm deep and 13 honing machines for honing bores from 2.5mm to 150mm diameter, the company has an established reputation for the supply of a high variety of parts with precisely-produced deep drilled and honed holes to a wide range of industry sectors including: medical, aerospace, defence, oil and gas, and motor sport.
Premier holds company approvals for producing holes to tight tolerances and micron finishes from blue chip organisations such as Rolls-Royce, TRW Aeronautical Systems, Dowty and BNFL.
"With our reputation in producing high-specification deep holes, there's no reason why similar high-quality, yet cost-down benefits cannot be achieved through similar value-added machining exercises for other customers across all industry sectors, " says managing director Stuart Grant.
