Trio of Alphas Save Time on Repeatable One-Offs
01 Dec 2004
Aberdeen-based engineering specialists, ATR Engineering Services Ltd has added three new Harrison Alpha lathes to its line-up of advanced turning machines in recent months. The most recent acquisition is a second Alpha 460T, which has a swing over bed of 460mm and distance between centres of 1500mm.
ATR has already achieved significant benefits in time-saving and 'repeatability' for one-off components since acquiring an Alpha 550T and the first Alpha 460T lathe. By opting for a second Alpha 460T machine it is confident of further enhancing its position as a preferred engineering supplier to its customers including many in the oil production, research and development, paper milling and fishing industries.
ATR's Allan Wilson says one of the great advantages of the Alpha machines is their ability to store and recall individual turning operations, using the touchscreen control system: "We do a lot of one-off turning jobs. With the Alphas we can store particular jobs and simply dial in the number of the job, if we need to repeat it.
"We are replacing our traditional manual machinery and by investing in a range of Alpha T lathes of different sizes means we have the flexibility for turning a wide range of different components. We are looking at investing in a much larger Alpha machine at the start of next year to give us even further capacity and capability."
