Cold Formed Automotive Fasteners Reduce Costs
01 Feb 2004
Cold heading specialists Fisco Fasteners is one of the world's first manufacturing plants to attain TS16949. Leaders in the manufacture of ball studs (predominantly used for attaching gas struts), Fisco specialises in complicated fasteners and components that until recently had to be produced by expensive, and wasteful, machining.
Fisco's cold forming process wastes virtually 0% material, uses less energy and no heat and produces consistent parts of higher strength with smooth surface finishes at much lower piece prices. Hexagonal and other inserts can be formed during initial manufacture and it is even possible to design one cold formed part to replace two or more existing parts.
Extensive secondary operations can be carried out in-house on CNC machines to add threads, grooves and knurls. Fisco's in-house surface and heat treatment works, offer standard finishes to 20 microns and hardening to grade 12.9. Approved subcontractors can also carry out special surface finishes, thread locking, induction hardening and carburising.
