Magnesium Castings Use Dry Goose-Neck Hot Chamber Method

Magnesium Castings Ltd, Worcester, uses a unique dry goose-neck hot chamber die casting process, and has just finished another batch of low volume, high quality, magnesium die-castings for Triumph Motorcycles. The engine covers, cam covers and steering brackets are typical of the applications where light weight and detail are required.

The dry goose-neck hot chamber die casting process offers two important benefits for product quality:

a significant reduction in the entrapment of impurities and the ability to produce thinner sections with reduced casting taper, while maintaining material strength and quality. This means designers have greater freedom in relation to wall thickness, bringing the potential for further weight savings.

This patented die casting system is able to achieve output rates of up to 500 shots per hour with casting weights ranging from 2g up to 3kg.

All dies are produced to in-house designs, utilising the latest calculated feed and temperature-controlled systems with die life up to 500,000 shots.

All castings are finish trimmed in-house with a full range of chemical dip, chromating, painting and powder-coating finishes available to customer specification.

Magnesium Castings serves a wide range of industries with components for: audio equipment, automotive components; computers;

power tools; disability aids;

electronics and sports equipment.
