£90k Deep Sea Plate Contract Cut by Water Jet

Streamline Waterjet & Laser Cutting Ltd is entering its 14th year of successful trading in the increasingly competitive market of sub-contract profiling. Just before Christmas, the Gateshead based firm completed a batch of around 200 mild steel plates of 20mm thick for use below deep sea oil terminals around the world. The nature of the job meant that only water jet cutting would do.

The plates varied in size up to 4m x 2m and required the cutting out of intricate 50mm high lettering. They will be assembled into docking stations for ROVs (remotely operated vehicle) by deep sea divers. The lettering had to be profiled using nonthermal methods otherwise molten metal would flow back into the cuts.

Originally conceived as a dedicated water jet cutting service, Streamline has in the past four years broadened its scope of expertise, by introducing laser cutting and CNC bending.

The company has established long term partnerships within the supply chain to BNFL and BAE Systems, become a first tier supplier to the yellow goods industry, and has an excellent reputation for supplying UK defence industry with profiled armour plate kits.

As part of the Responsive Engineering Group, supported by Pressex, Weldex and Kingsway Precision, Streamline can call upon a much wider scope of expertise and capability enabling them to undertake much larger complex projects involving presswork and assembly, specialist welding and precision machining.
