New Clay Model Cutting Machines Secure Major Global Automotive Deal
01 Jul 2004
A recent investment of £650,000 in two state-of-the-art clay model cutting machines, has helped secure a multi-million pound global automotive deal for design and prototype engineering specialist, Concept Group, Coventry. The machines digitally measure, mill and scan, thereby reducing lead times dramatically.
The recent global contract is a major boost to the company's expansion plans and should result in turnover rising past the £3m level to nearly £5m by the end of 2005.
Concept Group uses state-of-the-art technology in its digital studio to take a product from initial plans, right through to completion and has been significantly involved in recent concept cars, including the Cadillac CIEN, Jaguar RD6 and Nissan QASHQAI, recently launched at the Geneva Motor Show.
"The challenge now is to continue supporting our OEM customers, not only from a design and build capability, but also in assisting a fast track route into production, therefore reducing lead times and potentially increasing market sales."
Managed by Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Accelerate provided the Coventry-based company with a £20,000 Capital Grant and strategic support on the installation of the two machines. The automotive supply chain initiative is also in talks with the management team on part-funding specialist scanning equipment.
