Marine Bearings Contract is First of Many From VEN

The first Virtual Enterprise Network (VEN) in Yorkshire and Humber has finalised the first of what could be several multi-million pound contracts with Norway based Rolls Royce Marine. Leeds Bronze, the UK's largest stockist of bronze materials and part of the Advanced Engineering and Metals VEN, beat competition from across Europe to secure the deal with Rolls Royce Marine Engines, Bergen, to supply bearings. The deal will see the West Yorkshire company's turnover grow by nearly one third.

VENs are a new legally binding framework allowing companies within specific sectors to work together to win major global contracts that may not traditionally have been made available to a medium sized business.

They mimic blue chip companies by pooling best resources.

Yorkshire Forward's VEN offered Leeds Bronze the opportunity to grow its customer base by accessing contracts, and as a result, the company has been able to bid for contracts worth several million pounds for the first time.

Brian Walker of Leeds Bronze said: "The success of winning this contract comes from a totally honest and open relationship between us and the VEN. Teamwork and competitive pricing have proved the results."
