£2m Strategic Investment Aims to Attract Further Aerospace Contracts
01 Jun 2004
In 2001, with assistance and funding from Business Link, Burcas Ltd, set out to increase its share of the market for aerospace engineering products.
The business plan involved not only the upgrade of skills, and expansion of its precision engineering CNC facilities, but also the promotion and marketing of these new capabilities at Farnborough International 2002. Two years on, and after additional investment in machinery, Burcas will be exhibiting again at this flagship event, on stand C26 in Hall 2.
The Birmingham company has seen a 9.4% increase in output over the last quarter, which it believes is due to the expansion of its Aerospace section. Burcas has put in place a further strategic £2m investment plan.
Following its first strategic review in November 2001, Burcas began converting old style workshops into state of the art dedicated CNC facilities with the objective of winning aerospace contracts. With the help from Business Link Birmingham and Solihull, Burcas was awarded funds for the supplier development programme to enhance the skills of the toolmakers/engineers with training, expand the technology and improve the environment.
The £2m committed to investment is part of a business plan that will set the foundation for major growth, covering the areas of marketing, research and development, innovation, coupled with a financial and investment strategy. It will include the purchase of machines that can cope with the diversity of the Burcas range of products, and that fall in-line with lean manufacturing principles being employed within the company. It is envisaged that this strategic review will be complete within 2004, leading to further steady growth throughout the next 5 years.
