Advice Drives Change on the Road to 'Lean'

Kent-based Arcontrol Systems has identified productivity improvements of £250,000 thanks to the support from the Manufacturing Advisory Service in the South East.

Arcontrol, which specialises in electro-mechanical engineering, called in the MAS because they wanted to improve delivery performance, reduce costs and improve capacity planning.

A Step Change Programme was implemented involving MAS Specialist Stewart Barrass and a number of key improvements were achieved, including:

Productivity gains of £250,000 per annum; 20% reduction in space utilised; 15% reduction in scrap/defects.

Kevin Wilson, general manager at Arcontrol said: "I am delighted with the benefits that the improvement programme has brought to our company. The advice given on best practice has been really helpful in our drive towards implementing change and creating a permanent process for achieving targets."

Stewart Barrass said: "Arcontrol are on the road towards total 'lean' manufacturing and are in a good position to maximise the benefits of simple but effective tools and techniques."
